Traveling to the Minneapolis/St. Paul Area

The MSP International Airport

The Minneapolis/St. Paul area is serviced by the Minneapolis-St.Paul (MSP) International Airport, which has two terminals: the Lindbergh terminal and the Hubert H. Humphrey terminal.

A broad assortment of international, domestic, and regional airlines fly between MSP International Airport's two terminals and locales as near as Chicago and as far away as Tokyo. Travelers have their choice of airlines including: Air Canada, Air Tran Airways, American, Comair, Continental, Delta, Frontier, Icelandair, KLM, Mesaba, Midwest, Northwest, SkyWest, Sun Country, United, US Airways, and numerous charter and cargo carriers.

Once travelers have arrived at MSP International, they have a wide assortment of ground-transportation options to choose from, including: car rental, city buses, light rail, taxi service, and shared ride services through SuperShuttle.

Note: A taxi ride from MSP International Airport to the Macalester campus will cost approximately $20-$25.


Bus and Train Service to Minneapolis-St. Paul

Greyhound Bus Lines has many stops in Minnesota. The closest station to Macalester College is located at the Amtrak train station at:

Guests to Macalester College can park during the day in any campus lot, no permit required. Overnight guests are suggested to part in the Music Parking lot because it is a) well lit, and b) near the campus security office and therefore more secure.

Driving Directions

From Interstate 94, exit on Snelling Avenue and go south on Snelling Avenue to Grand Avenue. Turn right (west) on Grand Avenue and go one block. Turn left (south) on Macalester Street and follow the signs to visitor parking lots.

From the north on Interstate 35, take 35E into St. Paul. Exit to Interstate 94 westbound, and follow the directions above.

From the south on Interstate 35, take I-35E into St. Paul. Exit at Ayd Mill Road (exit #104B). At the second light, take a left onto Grand Avenue (westbound). One block past Snelling Avenue, turn left (south) onto Macalester Street. Signs will direct you to the visitor parking.

From the Airport, follow the signs for St. Paul/Highway 5. After you cross the river, exit right onto Edgcumbe Road (keep left as you exit) and follow for 1 mile; stay to the left and take Fairview Avenue. Follow Fairview Avenue for 2 miles. Turn right (east) on Grand Avenue and go three blocks to Macalester Street. Turn right (south) and signs will direct you to the visitor parking areas.
